This platform bed with a bridle jointed headboard was one of our original studio designs. Boyd & Allister got its start over 12 years ago making a line of beds for a local organic mattress shop. This simple design uses traditional joinery and clean lines, allowing the beauty of the wood to be the defining characteristic. There are four different beds, all essentially the same design, pictured in this listing. We make this design in a variety of different domestic hardwoods and configurations. Pictured in this listing are: a cherry frame with a live-edge alligator juniper headboard, a maple frame with a wormy maple headboard, and a cherry frame with a cherry headboard and a more pronounced footboard and a blackened ash frame and headboard. In all of the beds a top rail above the headboard showcases hand cut joinery with an exposed bridle joint where it meets the legs. The rails between the headboard and footboard disassemble with a traditional stub tenon and bed bolt construction. There are detailed pictures of the cap, made to resemble a through tenon, on the front legs which pivots to reveal the bed bolt. Each bed comes with a set of 8 slats that are constructed with reinforced hardwood ribs that make the slats rigid and prevent flexing. The total headboards of these beds are 42” tall and made for a 10” mattress to come to the bottom of the headboard (forgive the pictures as we only had a thin futon available for the photo shoot). It is not a problem to alter the height of the headboard to accommodate a thicker mattress. Finish is a natural oil and wax.
