THE TRACTOR STOOL

This hand carved stool in walnut with a tractor seat was originally designed for a client who asked for a comfortable stool in their steam shower. It was first made in teak. We liked it so much that we started making it in walnut, as seen above, as well as other domestic hardwoods. The shape is always free form cut on the bandsaw so that each one is unique and the dimensions listed are approximate. The shaping of the seat is also done entirely by eye and hand. A lot of carving and then test sitting and then carving until it sits comfortably. The turned legs gently flare as they reach the ground. They are joined to the seat with the time tested conical wedged tenon joint. The wedges are always made in a contrasting wood. These stools are finished with a natural oil and wax.
